Relating to Your Supervisor: Dealing with Conflict

The relationship with your graduate supervisor is one of the most important relationships in your academic career. It can be challenging and anxiety provoking as well as rewarding. This workshop is designed for graduate students who are experiencing conflict with their supervisor. Information will be provided about common types of conflict in supervisory relationships, ideas to address conflict using university resources and effective communication, and strategies to maintain well-being as a graduate student. Time will be provided for small group discussion and problem-solving.

Preparing to Defend Your Thesis: Strategies to Manage Your Anxiety

Preparing to defend your thesis can be a significant anxiety provoking experience. In this workshop, you will increase your understanding of your anxious response and learn how to change these reactions. Strategies to reduce and manage anxiety during your defense will be demonstrated with time to practice these skills. As your date of defense approaches, your confidence will increase during this crucial event in your graduate educational process. This is a popular workshop, so make sure to register early!

Life Balance

Juggling multiple obligations and commitments is a reality for graduate students. The number and intensity of commitments can at times feel overwhelming and require ongoing adjustments as your graduate program progresses. In this workshop, you will take time to intentionally reflect on what is most important in your academic and personal life to ensure your choices reflect your priorities. Learn strategies to balance your commitments and increase your vitality and energy!

Stress Reduction

Life as a graduate student can be intense and demanding on a seemingly continuous basis. Learning strategies to reduce and manage stress are critical skills for all graduate students. In this workshop, you will learn both cognitive-behavioral and mindfulness –based strategies that can be easily applied in your life. Time is given in the workshop to practice exercises and you will leave feeling relaxed and more equipped to manage your graduate experience.
