On Thursday, May 2, from 7:00 to 9:00pm, a free 90-minute introductory workshop on cognitive behaviour therapy as a treatment for depression will be held on the University of Calgary campus. Based on the idea that the way we view the world contributes to our psychological well being, cognitive behaviour therapy helps depression sufferers identify negative thoughts and it gives them strategies to prevent such thoughts from becoming overwhelming.
The workshop will be hosted by Professor Keith Dobson of the Department of Psychology, one of Canadian’s top depression experts. The workshop will also include an interactive component whereby participants will learn exercises in how to apply cognitive behaviour therapy to their own lives.
For more information on the event, consult a recent UToday story on Professor Dobson and his work, and visit the registration website for the workshop.
