Local Resources and Projects

There are a number of great local resources that students with disabilities can make use of – below are just a few.

CNIB has some great resources, including a massive alternate format library which is open to people who cannot read print because of visual, physical, or learning disability.

The Calgary chapter of CHADD (Children and Adults with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) provides information and support for parents, children, and adults in the Calgary area.

The Calgary chapter of LDAA (Learning Disabilities Association of Alberta) has a similar mandate – you can access information, resources, programs, and event listings through their website.

The Leap Project is a free 8 week online program for young people (ages 13-24) struggling with depression. If you are interested, check out the FAQ – it provides more information on the process and what is required to quality for participation.

The Autism Aspergers Friendship Society of Calgary provides respite care for children, youth, and adults on the Autism Spectrum; Autism Calgary hosts regular support and networking meetings, in addition to putting on some really interesting workshops and events

The local affiliate of the Tourette Syndrome Foundation of Canada offers public and family support meetings and social outings, in addition to a Clinic which provides consultation and continuing care for children and adults with Tourette Syndrome.
