Accessibility in the Workplace
March 21, 2017 | 3:00 pm – 5:00 pm
Ready to graduate or thinking about your future career? This interactive workshop offers students with disabilities and/or medical conditions a great opportunity to hear from employers who are passionate about recruiting, empowering, and retaining employees with disabilities, and to meet some of the great community resources available to help with navigating employment with a disability! Discussion topics will include:
- Duty to accommodate and what organizations can do to support the diverse needs of their employees
- Disclosure of disability – a conversation about how much employees should/need to share, and when?
- Empowering and positioning yourself to choose a great employer
- First person perspective from professionals with a disability/medical condition – Colleen from SAIT and Jennifer from U of C Wellness Centre
This highly interactive session will be in roundtable format, where 4-5 students will have the opportunity to connect with 2 employers per table. Open networking will commence once the formal roundtable portion has concluded.
