Student Success Centre Peer Helpers

The Student Success Centre Peer Helpers program is currently accepting applications for the Fall 2015 semester.

These volunteer positions are open to both undergraduate and graduate students and would involve, among other tasks, presenting Success Seminars, working at the front desk, and working one-on-one with students to develop study strategies.

Tile is a electronic lost and found system for people who may misplace important items. A small tracking beacon can be attached to the item so that if it gets lost, the location of the item is sent via Bluetooth to the Tile app installed on your mobile device. The app is currently available for iOS, with an Android version in the works.

A student has kindly offered a review of Tile:

“Thus far this has proved to be a super handy app for finding misplaced items. It has a little sound that can be activated and a “getting warmer” visual feature.

It only casts 100 ft radius, but it does track the last seen location as a starting place if outside this range. If it isn’t around when you get to that location you can report it as lost. This enables the signal to be picked up by the app worldwide and sends you a location if anyone with the app is in range (so the more who use this the better for all of us!).”

The student has indicated some areas of concern as well: the use of Bluetooth can accelerate battery drain on your device, and because each tile is sealed to be waterproof, it only lasts for one year (a renewal program is apparently in the works, however).

More information on the product and how to order can be found on the Tile website:
